It’s about to get WEIRD

Launch Day for my new card collection WEIRDO BEARDO is fast approaching, so I thought I’d take the moment and explain a little more on what it’s all about.

What a year 2020 was right? Global Pandemics, bog roll shortages and lockdowns became the norm, but these things brought about some interesting developments in the world of greeting cards. During lockdown in 2020, I noticed an increase in card sales through my online shop, with people ordering different designs than normal, wanting to write to friends and family throughout the year, just to touch base and check in.

Our Posties were kept busy, bless their little cotton socks and black and white cats…

With face to face meets put on hold and the majority of us confined to our locale/living rooms, letter writing and card sending became a more meaningful way of communicating, taking precedence over a thumbs up on Facebook or (even worse) the smiley emoji!

….and it got me thinking, maybe I need to create a card range which isn’t specifically linked to any big life events (birthdays, baby arrivals or bar mitzvahs), its sole purpose would be to raise spirits and could be sent all year round. I mean, we all need a bit of laughter every now and again, especially in these bat shit crazy times.

I also wanted to change the way the sender and recipient interacted with the card, how could it be used in a way which added to the levity and gave it a bit more mileage than just a quick pun….

Then it came to me, wearable cards! Now, there may well be a very good reason why wearable cards have yet to have been invented or hit the card shelves of the big publishing houses (we shall find out soon), but personally I liked the idea and when has creating a commercially viable product ever been a concern for me in the past, right?!

…. and so WEIRDO BEARDO was born….(Don’t ask me where the beard bit came from, I have a terrible memory).
